"Black Authors on Tour" Visiting HBCUs

How often have you heard that African Americans do not read? Well, this assumption has finally recognized for what it is a myth as America experiences a surge in African American readership.

With this in mind, "Black Authors on Tour" was born. The brain child of The Trimani Group, a full-service event-planning and -marketing group, Black Authors on Tour was designed to spread the joy of reading to the black community by sponsoring events that combine motivation, education and entertainment.

The tour is targeted to avid readers as well as aspiring readers and people who were just interested in learning about their favorite authors and celebrities.

With a special interest in readership among college students, this year's tour is set for campuses of the major HBCUs. It kicked off with hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons, author of "Life and Def: Sex, Drugs, Money, + God," at Norfolk State University.

Alysha Cobb, a student at Howard University, wrote this for The Hilltop.
