At Morgan State, a Well-Deserved Vacation

Fortunately for Morgan State University in Baltimore, Hurricane Isabel barely even shook its foundation.

We Decided to Be Storm Troupers – To My Regret

There was no damage to any of the buildings, and no flooding. For the most part, Morgan students remained with power as their neighbors fell into darkness Thursday evening, Sept. 18.

There were only brief power outages the night that Isabel struck, producing a wave of flashing red lights from disturbed alarm clocks in dorm rooms across campus. The dorms on the main campus are connected to generators that kept the electricity flowing throughout the storm.

Senior Carmen Green, a resident assistant for Harper/Tubman Dorms said, " The storm didn't really affect us. People complain about the facilities on Morgan's campus, but we still had power."

A mile away, residents of the upscale, off-campus housing known as Morgan View, lost their power for little more than an hour -- a minor inconvenience, considering.

Morgan survived the hurricane, and students enjoyed an unexpected and well-deserved "vacation."
