Double Times Five at Rust College

Students, faculty and staff at Rust College in Holly Springs, Miss., may be getting a bit confused by the look-alikes on campus.

Latisha & Latosha Carter
It so happens that that currently at Rust, which has an enrollment of just under 1,000 students, there are five sets of identical twins.

They all say being identical twins can be fun, particularly, when people try to figure out who's who and that they tend to have a connection that other siblings do not share. But they also point out it can be hard to find a balance between being a twin and having your own identity.

Desmond & Demond Lester
Identical twins Desmond and Demond Lester of Potts Camp, both majoring in political science, have managed to find the balance -- having a close connection while also being themselves on campus.

"We are alike in many ways with a love for athletics," said Desmond, the older of the two. Nonetheless, Demond, who appears more bossy and outgoing, did not fail to interject that he is more competitively athletic than his twin brother. "I think we have remained close because we enjoy the same things and we have mutual friends," Desmond said.

Jonathan and Jeremy Mitchell
Chicago natives Jonathan and Jeremy Mitchell candidly spoke of their physical differences. Jonathan shares computer science as a major with his brother who has a distinctive cut above his eye brow and is the older of the twins. "My lips are fuller than my brother's and I am more concerned with athletics. My brother is more concerned with his academics," Jonathan said.

Ariel and Ashley Ward, like the Mitchells, are from Chicago, and say their experience thus far at Rust has been positive. They say students tend to have various reactions when the apparent becomes obvious. "We twins!" Ashley, the older of the two remarked, adding, "Many times one of us is mistaken for the other." However, during the time they have dated, there was no error, with either boyfriend mistaking one for the other, Ashley explained.

Ashley & Ariel Ward
Business/Accounting major Ashley, and Ariel who plans to study Pre-Med/Business said that they both like music and love to have fun.

Latisha and Latosha Carter, also from Chicago, and they also have in common the love for music. "People tend to do a double take when they discover we are twins, asking 'y'all twins?'" However, when it comes to the sense of style, they are the opposites. Latisha, the older of the two, refers to herself as casual, comfortable and laid-back, but she considers Latosha to be the girly-girly type.

Danreika & Danneika Graise
Danreika and Danneika Graise, from Greenville, Miss., may have the same friends, and attend the same school, but they have chosen different areas of study. Danneika, a political science/pre-law major, is four minutes older than her twin who majors in sociology. Danneika considers herself to be more reserved, down-to-earth, and a bit of a tomboy with emphasis on her studies.
