Southern U. Alum Moves Up Atlanta Braves' Ladder

Southern University alumnus Marco Paddy knows the benefit of hard work. A former scout for the Atlanta Braves, Paddy recently was promoted to assistant director of player development for the organization.

As a member of the Jaguar baseball team from 1985 to 1988, Paddy values his time at Southern as both a student and a baseball player.

"Ive come a long way. Ive learned a lot of good things from dealing with people," notes Paddy. "If you work harder than anyone else youll move up."

SU baseball's head coach Roger Cador expressed his pleasure over the appointment of the former player and assistant coach.

"Obviously we are excited and happy. We are excited because he is in a position that not many achieve. This is a step in the right direction. This experience will aid him in possibly becoming a general manager one day."

A native of Colon, Panama, Paddy has not limited himself to baseball achievements. Fluent in English and Spanish, he earned a bachelor of science degree in engineering as well as a masters from Southern.

Paddy is credited with bringing several student athletes to Southern. "A lot of people will go there and have the work ethic that they need. Work hard not only in baseball, but in life, period. You just gotta work hard."
